How It Works
The Bitaxe uses actual ASIC chips salvaged from commercial miners (like the BM1366, BM1368, or BM1397 chips from Bitmain’s Antminer lineup) but implements them on a single-chip PCB design. The device connects to your Wi-Fi network and communicates with mining pools using the Stratum protocol, just like big miners do. Because it’s open-source hardware, you can build one yourself from a kit or buy pre-assembled units from community builders.
Most Bitaxe models support overclocking and undervolting through a simple web interface, letting you balance between maximum hashrate and efficiency. The newer models achieve around 15-20 J/TH, which is actually competitive with some older industrial miners. They run cool enough that you won’t experience thermal throttling in normal home conditions, and they can be powered by a simple USB-C power supply.
